llegal connections, cable theft and vandalism remain a serious problem during power interruptions in the Cederberg and Matzikama areas.
Thursday, 8 September 2022: Eskom experienced a number of faults in the Cederberg and Matzikama areas due to inclement weather that occurred during the week of Monday, 29 August. It is important to note that these interruptions are exacerbated by syndicates that steal Eskom cables and vandalise infrastructure.
These criminal activities have resulted in prolonged power outages leaving paying customers frustrated. The financial impact due to Illegal connections, cable theft and vandalism are severe.
Due to the magnitude of the faults, Eskom had to deploy additional teams to the area to ensure that the restoration time is minimised. Each case is unique, and the following factors may impact restoration time such as procuring of materials, condition and state of the environment, just to name a few.
The ethical behaviour of Eskom employees is highly regarded, and should any criminal activity be detected, the matter will be investigated and dealt with the urgency it requires.
